Lifeline Program

The Lifeline Program, provided by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), is a program that provides mobile phone services to eligible low-income individuals at low cost or no cost depending on the qualifications of the applicant. Qualified applicants may receive some or all of the following benefits through this program:
- Unlimited calling
- Unlimited texting
- 4.5 GB of data per month
- Possibility to receive a free smartphone*
What You Will Need to Apply for This Program
- Your Medicaid card for eligibility verification
- Your social security number
- Current home address and postal mailing address
- Phone number and email address
Step-by-Step Instructions for Applying to This Program
- Step 1: Apply through the National Verifier (Federal Lifeline Portal)
- Start the process by visiting: https://getinternet.gov/apply
- Create an account
- Complete the application using Medicaid as the eligibility proof
- Once approved, you’ll receive an Application ID
- Step 2: Choose a Lifeline-Approved Wireless Provider

- Step 3: SIM Card and Phone Activation
- After provider’s approval, a SIM card will be mailed to the applicant
- When the SIM card arrives, photograph the ICCID (found on the back of the card)
- Call the provider to activate the SIM card and start phone service
Additional Information
- This benefit is part of a federally funded program and may continue indefinitely provided that the applicant:
- continues to meet eligibility requirements
- uses the phone service at least once every 30 days
- Annual recertification is required to continue receiving benefits.
